Asthma. Briefly About The Disease

Such illness as asthma is a long-lasting disease, which may affect respiratory organs, intestine or nervous system. In case of bronchial asthma the breathing passages are involved into the pathologic process, so that the airways are inflamed and narrowed. Usually the clinical signs of asthma are heavy and noisy breathing along with short wind and cough.
Regardless of age everybody may be exposed to asthma. But as the sad statistic shows the youngest citizens become the victims of the disease. Thus among 30 million patients who are down with asthma almost 20% are children.
As we know the air comes in and out of our lungs through the airways – air tubes. Those who suffer from asthma have inflamed respiratory tracts. Thereby the swelled breathing tubes become very sensitive and thus amenable to other illnesses. Besides, the inflamed airways are also vulnerable to chemical compounds contained in the inspired air.
The physical process goes the following way: while breathing in the air the respiratory tracts react to the chemical elements contained in the air, which tightens the muscles around the breathing passages. Consequently the respiratory tracts grow narrow letting less air pass into the lungs. That causes first labored then restricted respiration and often comes to gasp or even suffocation. If severe enough or prolonged such asphyxiation may cause death. This is explained by abnormal mucus – the slimy protective liquid of the membranes, gathering in the swelled airways and thus restricting the respiration process.
Such frequent signs usually develop into asthma symptoms. Every time the sick breathing passages are irritated, the asthma symptoms may occur.
In case the disease is benign or has a mild form, the symptoms of asthma may pass on their own. Sometimes after the basic medical treatment asthma can clear up of its own accord for some time. But if the disease doesn’t abate or some other symptoms come out too often, in this event we have an asthma attack. Another name for asthma attack is flare-up or exacerbation.
As well as by other sicknesses and illnesses, it is vitally important to eliminate the signs of asthma disease as soon as you detect them. It will surely assist prevent additional symptoms or the existent ones from potential change for the worse. Thus by following the doctor’s recommendations you may avoid acute severe asthma.
Still there are some modern remedies, which may let the sick persons forget about the disease for a long time. If to take chronic medication people suffering from asthma can prevent the acute attacks and therewith reduce the number of multiple asthma symptoms. Today due to modern outpatient treatment asthmatic persons can finally forget about nocturnal asthma and live absolutely normal life.
